Withdrawn from traffic and stored while awaiting a definite place in the overhaul queue.

There is ongoing cosmetic maintenance of the locomotive and it's getting out-and-about!

Present (August 2008)

No.96 Normandy has stopped off for a few months at Barrow Hill, Chesterfield, on its return south from the National Railway Museum's '1968 and all that' event.

It is on static display in the roundhouse, keeping company with LNER A2 Blue Peter and BR Western Region Brown Boveri gas turbine No.18000, which is pictured below on the turntable.

Chris Gardner, who lives close, took these photographs and is generously popping in on Saturdays to keep Normandy clean.

No.96 was loaded onto a transporter and headed north to Yorkshire on Tuesday 20th May.

No.96 is about to visit the '1968 and all that' exhibition at the National Railway Museum, York for the last week of this month (24 May - 1 June 2008) and will then visit Barrow Hill and return to the Bluebell in September.

She has been repainted and re-lettered for the NRM visit and has taken the place of No. 80151 which is now needed for service trains on the Bluebell.

There is an article on Normandy in Steam Railway to start fund raising for the £50,000 needed to cover the locomotive's overhaul costs.
